UNCASVILLE, CT – Bypassing a state law that prohibits automakers from selling directly to consumers, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla now has a factory retail store in Connecticut. It opened about two weeks ago at Mohegan Sun casino. However, it wasn’t until Wednesday that a ribbon-cutting and grand opening event was staged.
The new showroom and sales and delivery center sidestepped the statute as it is on sovereign tribal land where the state’s ban on direct sales doesn’t apply. Tesla also has a service center for its EVs in Connecticut in Milford. Up until now, buyers were forced to go to other states to buy their vehicles.
The Tesla showroom is located at the Shops at Mohegan Sun. It is open from 10 a.m. to p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
“Opening the Tesla EV Showroom here in our Shops at Mohegan Sun, with a full sales, service and delivery operation, is the next chapter in our constant goal of creating unrivaled experiences across our 5.5 million square foot destination,” said Jeff Hamilton, president and general manager of Mohegan Sun.
“This new partnership allows for a significant upgrade to our existing charging spaces as well, creating an enhanced amenity and more convenience for our guests and travelers throughout the region.”
Potential Tesla buyers may take demo drives of the Model 3, Y, S and X at the new store.
“Tesla’s partnership with the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun underscores their dedication to environmental sustainability,” said Rohan Patel, Tesla’s vice president of public policy and business development.
“As Connecticut’s first sales and delivery center of its kind, we anticipate a substantial surge in zero-emission vehicle adoption. The partnership will make electric vehicles and charging infrastructure more accessible to all residents of Connecticut. We commend the Tribe and Mohegan Sun for exemplifying leadership in environmental stewardship and look forward to our work together, including the development of local talent for careers at Tesla.”
