Some drivers may still scoff at electric vehicles, but those who own them have intense loyalty and are permanently rejecting gas-powered cars for a variety of reasons. Among them are lower operating costs, the fact they are more climate friendly and are better for the local environment.
Of roughly 23,000 drivers surveyed recently by the Global EV Drivers Alliance, a total of 92 percent said they plan on buying another battery-powered car when its time to shop again. Only one percent said they’d return to a fossil fuel model, while four percent said they’d opt for a plug-in hybrid.
The Global EV Drivers Alliance is a non-profit network of of 64 national electric vehicle associations from 38 countries and represents 336,000 EV drivers.
Results of the survey show that 45 percent of owners prefer EV because of lower operating costs, followed by 40 percent who say they’re more climate friendly, and 32 percent who think them better for the local environment.
Why Owners Prefer An EV
While charging time, range and non-functioning chargers are listed as concerns of EV owners, a sizable 40 percentage said there are no disadvantages to owning an EV, another sign that once an owners reject internal combustion engines, their conversion is solid.
Disadvantages To Having An EV
Participants in the study came from 18 countries, including the United States. The survey was conducted between Aug. 27 and Nov. 24 and the results were released Monday.
