New Specialty CT License Plate Honors Borinqueneers

WETHERSFIELD, CT – A new specialty license plate honoring the 65th infantry regiment of the U.S. Army and bearing the flag of Puerto Rico is now available in Connecticut. It was unveiled last week by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and the Hispanic-American Veterans of Connecticut.

The 65th infantry regiment, known as the Borinqueneers, was composed primarily of Puerto Rican soldiers who served during World War I, World War II and the Korean War.

“Connecticut is proud to honor United States veterans through a series of commemorative license plates, and this new plate honoring the Borinqueneers celebrates this unit’s unique place in American history, particularly during armed conflicts in which hundreds of its members gave their lives in service to our country. We thank the Borinqueneers for their service and contributions to the U.S. Army,” said Governor Ned Lamont in a DMV press release.

DMV Commissioner Tony Guerrera added, “Our agency proudly offers a wide variety of military and veteran-themed license plates, and we’re especially honored to now introduce one commemorating the 65th Infantry Regiment. This new plate features meaningful artwork that shines a spotlight on this important chapter in U.S. history, ensuring the contributions of the Borinqueneers continue to be recognized.”

Plate fees begin at $60. Plates are available in Passenger, Combination, Commercial, Camper, and Camp trailer configurations. A portion of the proceeds will support the Hispanic-American Veterans of Connecticut, Inc. in providing bilingual services and assistance to Connecticut veterans and members of the armed forces.
