DEARBORN, MI – It was only a little more than four years ago that Ford began selling the electric Mustang Mach-E crossover. It was dismissed by some at the time as not being a “real Mustang,” rather a model that appropriated the Mustang name and logo in hopes of prodding sales.
Well, guess what? The Mustang Mach-E is now better seller than the original gas-powered model that’s celebrating 60 years on America’s roadways. At least in the first quarter of 2025, according to Q1 financial stats released Monday by Ford.

Mustang Mach-E sales totaled 11,607 units in the first three months of 2025, compared to 9,377 units of the Mustang.
Mustang Mach-E sales increased 21 percent year-to-year from the 9,589 sold in the first quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, Mustang sales plummeted 31..6 percent from the 13,707 sold in Q1 of 2024.

It seems that the Mustang Mach-E is now firmly accepted, while its old school brother is becoming a niche relic.
Ford said the Mustang Mach-E accomplished “a record start on sales” in 2025 “despite limited inventory.” New 2025 model-year Mustang Mach-Es “are now in transit and will make their way to dealer lots in April,” Ford said.
Overall, Ford said its Q1 sales of electric vehicles were up 11.5 percent year-to-year, while sales of internal combustion models dipped 4.8 percent. Sales of electrified models (electric and hybrid) totaled 73,628, up from 58,644. ICE sales totaled 427,668, down from 449,439.
