Eviction Has Freccia Brothers Garage Seeking Funds For New Home

GREENWICH, CT – Facing immediate eviction, Freccia Brothers Garage at 246 W. Putnam Ave. has launched a GoFundMe page hoping to raise sufficient money to find a new location and keep the 103-year business operating. As of Saturday morning, more than $12,000 has been raised with the goal being $250,000.

Describing themselves as “heartbroken,” those behind the business that is devoted to air-cooled vintage Volkswagens – Frank Freccia III, Guinevere Freccia and mechanic Dave D’Andrea Jr. – started the fundraiser on Friday.

The GoFundMe page explains, “For years, we have been embroiled in a legal family trust dispute over ownership of the building where Freccia Brothers has always been. Despite being hopeful that it would work out, unfortunately we’ve just learned that we lost the dispute and the family member who won has decided to immediately evict us.”

A Facebook post describes the situation as a “nightmare” and notes, “Our business did not fail; we were forced out of the garage. After 103 years of business, we were evicted by our landlord…

“We do not want to leave our sanctuary, our shop – but we will respect the law and appreciate the marshal working with us. Know this: we poured our hearts, our pride, and our lives into this little shop. We wish we could stay. Now you know the truth. With your help, we will rebuild—and the Freccia legacy will drive on.”

So far, 53 people have donated $10 to $2,000 help the effort.
