DEARBORN, MI – Think of all the names of models that begin with the letter “F” that Ford has used over the years. There’s Falcon, Fairlane, Fiesta, Fairmont and Futura, along with Focus, Fusion and Flex. Put an F-word after Ford and it’s pleasantly alliterative.
Add one more to the list.
Ford on Thursday announced that “Fathom” will be the name of its new mid-size electric truck model. The name was picked following a “nine-month naming journey.”
The Fathom will have “standard battery range” and an MSRP starting at $28,350, Ford said. That number doesn’t include a $1,595 destination fee. Ford added that ordering will begin in early 2027.
The model will compete “in the heart of the affordable EV market,” but it is a bit higher priced that the upcoming EV truck from Slate that will start at $24,950.
No photos were released by Ford, but the company reported the Fathom is “Projected to have more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, with a large, high-resolution touch screen, bidirectional power capability, digital key, as well as a frunk and bed for added cargo flexibility, Fathom seats five adults and is just as comfortable on a workday commute as it is on a weekend adventure.”
