RIDE-CT – Classic Cars Celebrating Classic Cars in Connecticut
With the forecast calling for an inch or more of rain overnight and into the morning on Sunday, at least 10 car shows across the state have either decided to postpone or cancel. The day was due to be the busiest day of the car show season with at least 16 shows scheduled in Connecticut.
One show that’s still on is Thomaston’s 35th Summer Cruise in downtown. A Saturday afternoon post on social media stated the show is “finding a way to adjust to the weather” and may “alter our timing and program accordingly” to make it happen. The show is set to happen from 1 to 6 p.m. but the start time could be pushed back depending on how quickly the rain moves out.
The Thomaston show may not have additional details until Sunday morning. “We want to try to extend our 34 year streak of no cancelations to 35 and beyond, which is the main reason for us taking this chance. We ask for your patience and understanding while we determine exactly what the timing and our options will be,” the show said in its post.
Among the shows being canceled are the Connecticut Volkswagen Association’s 22nd annual meet at the Southington Drive-In in Southington, the British Motorcar Gathering and Picnic in Manchester, and the Yankee Yesteryear Car Club Auto Show and Swap Meet in Brooklyn.
