WETHERSFIELD, CT – There will only be 500 slices, er, plates sold, so pizza-loving car owners in Connecticut may want to rush to obtain a new vanity license plate that declares their allegiance to “The Pizza State.” The special interest plate went on sale today.
There’s no choice of pizza topping – vegans may be aghast that the slice on the plate is topped with pepperoni – and only one spot to buy this celebration of the state’s favorite food. Don’t look for it on the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles website , rather on the website of Taste of New Haven.
Taste of New Haven is taking orders for the special interest plate. Registration info and payment is being done securely on behalf of the DMV. The cost for transferring an existing plate or replacing an existing plate is $65 plus $10 shipping and handling. A new vanity plate carries a $134 registration fee plus $10 shipping and handling.
In addition to promoting Connecticut as “The Pizza State,” the tasty plate also encourages support for Connecticut Foodshare, which serves thousands of residents.
No word on whether the new pizza plates will be delivered in the mail in a box rather than an envelope.
