Avon Man Arrested For Drawing Swastika On A Tesla

AVON, CT – A 40-year-old Avon man has been arrested by the local police department for drawing a swastika on a Tesla automobile in late March. Steve Lowell Weinberger of 75 Avonwood Road has been charged with second degree criminal mischief and second degree breach of peace.

In a press release, Avon police reported that while speaking with officers, “Weinberger admitted to drawing the swastika as he was upset with the current political climate in the country.” It added that he “did not know who owned the Tesla.”

Avon police responded on March 26 at 8:08 p.m. to a complaint that a swastika had been drawn with a marker on the driver’s side door of a Tesla Model Y. The car was parked in the lot at Puerto Vallarta restaurant at 15 West Avon Road. The incident was captured by the car’s security camera and showed a man in a black hoodies approach the car.

Police said “the male party looks around and begins to the draw the swastika on the driver’s side door,” then leaves the area “operating a white sedan.”

The police department’s release did not say when Weinberger was arrested. Weinberger was released on a $25,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Hartford on April 30. The release was posted Monday afternoon on the department’s Facebook page.
