Are Dash Plaques Worth The Effort And Expense?

HARWINTON, CT – It’s a bit of an odd but harmless question. Are dash plaques that are handed out to entrants at car shows worth the effort and expense for show organizers?

What’s prompts the question was a recent conversation with someone involved in a car show. She was pondering the value of the souvenir and explained that each plaque costs her organization $5, which was half of her show’s $10 entry fee. With dash plaques being given to the first 100 entrants that was $500 that might have been better used elsewhere.

Last weekend, I asked a few folks that I chatted with at car shows what their take was on dash plaques. The responses were pretty much the same; they’re a trinket that isn’t vital to the decision-making process on whether they attend a show or not. “I throw them in drawer,” said one person. Another said that if they’re magnetized, they go on the side of a refrigerator.

No one any real voiced enthusiasm for dash plaques. They’re just accepted as common practice, a trinket that will eventually get tossed in the dust bin.

With that in mind, RIDE-CT has posted a poll on its YouTube channel in an attempt to get a broader response to question of whether dash plaques have any value. Are they an enticement that boost entries or merely a souvenir destined to collect dust?

The results will be passed on to the aforementioned show organizer. (The above photo was taken at Stew Leonard’s Car Show on July 19. No idea whether that show hands out dash plaques.)
