ROME, Italy – As farfetched as it may sound, Ferrari has revealed a new battery-powered, four-door model. The all-wheel-drive electric model is called the Luce and was unveiled Monday. Luce is the Italian word for “light” and Ferrari said its new sports car represents “the beginning of a new chapter in Ferrari’s storied history of engineering excellence and innovation.”
The 1,035-horsepower Luce has four electric engines, one per wheel, and a 122 kWh battery. Weighing in at 4,982 pounds, the Luce can go from 0-100 kilometers per hour (or 62 miles per hour) in 2.5 seconds and 0-220 km/h (or 124 miles per hour) in 6.8 seconds. It has a top speed of more than 310 km/h (193 miles per hour).

In unveiling the Ferrari Luce, company CEO Benedetto Vigna said, “We are convinced that a company demonstrates its leadership when it has the courage to dare and to take on the challenge of new technologies. Ferrari Luce was born precisely from this challenge, offering our unprecedented vision of electrification.”
John Elkann, president of Ferrari, said, “Today, we are not simply unveiling a new car, we are inaugurating a chapter that turns our vision into reality, strengthening Ferrari’s tradition of anticipating and shaping the future.”

The five-passenger Ferrari Luce was styled by design collective LoveFrom, which was founded by Jony Ive and Marc Newsom in 2019 after they left Apple and has studios in San Francisco and London.
Ferrari said its new model is “not merely the ‘electric Ferrari’ but an entirely new Ferrari, designed for deeper engagement and performance, with a unique and recognizable character.” That may be true but it is a heritage-shaking departure from the company’s past.

The European market will get first crack at Luce later this year. The price tag is expected to be £520,000 (or more than $600,000). The model isn’t expected to come to the United States until the second quarter of 2027. Its price in this country has not been released.
The Luce’s anticipated range is 329 miles.
